Friday Night at Cockburn!

Friday night's game is the 200th for club stalwart Sheldon McIntyre. It will also see the Men's team fight it out for the minor premiership and the Women's team fight for a spot in the post season! It's looking like a huge night down at Wally Hagan!
Below is a bit more about our 200th gamer, Sheldon McIntyre, from our facebook page...

Congratulations to Sheldon McIntyre who plays his 200th SBL game for the Cockburn Cougars this Friday night the 29th July.

Sheldon has been part of Cockburn Basketball Association since he was 8 years old, and made his SBL debut for the club in 2005. The End of an Era!

Door person extraordinaire “Viv” is no longer with us having recently departed for a better place.

For a long time Viv was the face of Cockburn Basketball Stadium. The first person you met when you entered the stadium and often the last one you said goodbye to as you went home after your game. She was the one that took your money and gave you a ticket when you came in to play. She was the one that sometimes told you off when you stepped out of line. She was also the one to patch up our junior players and give a quick hug when they were injured.

Viv was at the door for the junior and the senior competitions. She looked forward each year to be at the door for the at home games for the WABL competition. The till did not always balance straight away but it was always sorted before she went home. Viv fronted up for every SBL season when her beloved Cougars were playing at home. Viv also liked to help out in the office and as long as things were being done her way, the way they had always been, she would not argue with you.

Viv is gone but not forgotten. And as we make changes in the way we run basketball at Cockburn we sometimes can’t help thinking would Viv have approved? After many, many years she is reunited with Bob and both will be looking over Cockburn with an approving smile.

Vivian has left the stadium – Her memory will linger on!

For those that would like to attend, Viv's funeral is on Monday 15th February at 12pm, Fremantle Cemetery's West Chapel.
